Evaluation of the Intubating Laryngeal Airway in Children-Phase 3
This research study investigates a specific type ofairway device, called the intubating laryngeal airway and to specifically evaluate the special features that allows for inserting a breathing tube.
Who can participate in this study?
- In order to participate in the study, your child must be generally healthy and undergoing a planned surgery where a breathing tube is appropriate for airway management. Your anesthesiologist will make this judgment. Your child must also be under 50 kg and not significantly over- or under- weight for their age.
Who should not participate in this study?
- Your child should not participate in this study if they are having emergency surgery, have significant health problems or have an abnormal spine shape. Your child should not participate if they have gastroesophageal reflux disease (severe heartburn), significant problems with breathing, disorders that prevent blood from clotting normally, irregular airway anatomy or a history of adverse reaction to the ILA (e.g. allergy to a component). Your child should not participate if their airway is known or anticipated to be difficult. Your child's anesthesiologist will make this judgement.
