Relationship between respiratory induced variation in pulse oximetry plethysmogram and arterial pulse pressure waveforms in ventilated children, an observational study
Who can participate in this study?
- In order to participate in the study, your child must be aged from 0-6 years, have a structurally normal heart and have a normal heart rhythm.
Who should not participate in this study?
- Children with any shunts in, or near the heart (e.g. atrial septal defects (ASD), ventricular septal defects (VSD) or patent ductus arteriosis (PDA))) cannot participate as the shunt is likely to make the results unreliable. Children who have disturbances in heart rhythm (e.g. atrial fibrillation, atrio-ventricular block) cannot participate as these disturbances do not allow us to calculate the necessary changes in blood pressure accurately. Your anesthetist will be able to tell you if your child is eligible.
